British Aneurysm Repair Score

Further Information

The BAR score is based on data from 11423 patients who underwent elective abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair in the UK between April 2008 and March 2011. The abstract is available on Pub Med. Of over 11,000 patients in the National Vascular Database, only 10 patients were not aged between 30 and 95, and only 46 patients had an AAA not between 3.5 and 11.0cm. As a result the BAR score may not be accurate outside these age and AAA diameter ranges - please exercise clinical discretion in interpreting the score.
The BAR score provides an estimate of the risk of in-hospital mortality for a group of patients with the same preoperative characteristics. It does not predict outcomes for individual patients. The data used to develop the BAR score may contain inaccuracies and incompleteness. Prior to using the BAR score, you must make your own assessment of the suitability of the model and the information or data contained in or generated from BAR score.
